Windy Dankoff’s career combines his technical talents with his passion for environmental preservation. In 1977, he started a wind and solar-electric business in New Mexico, to serve people living beyond the power lines. He worked solely in the private sector, where systems had to be cost-effective. Before the 80’s, there was no industry to support his effort, so he had to be creative and resourceful. He succeeded where others failed by keeping systems simple, using primarily DC power and high efficiency loads, and educating his customers to understand what they could and could not do.
In 1983, he expanded into water supply, and became a world pioneer in low-cost solar pumping. Solar pumps are used for domestic, livestock, small irrigation, stream protection, pond management, park facilities, and more. Dankoff Solar Products is now a division of Solar Power & Pump Co. They manufacture and distribute the world’s widest variety of solar pumps and systems.
Windy has had over 30 technical papers and magazine articles published, in the fields of photovoltaic applications, energy efficiency, system design, and solar water pumping. He is a technical advisor and writer and a consultant to Solar Power & Pump Co.
